| 内容記述 | The queue has been examined in the context of history and politics, but its connection to industrial modernization has not been thoroughly explored. This paper aims to elucidate the specific relationship between editorials concerning queue-cutting and industrial modernization by analyzing newspapers such as "Ta Kun Pao", "Shen Pao", "Sheng Ching Shih Pao" ‒ published from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. This paper fi rstly simply describes the details of the argument of queue-cutting that appeared in the late 19th century, and then introduces the argument of queue-cutting related to industrial modernization. Secondly, this paper discussed the appearance and development of journalism engaged in queue-cutting, in particularly collecting newspaper articles which reported industrial and traffic accidents that frequently occurred in the late 19th century and the early 20th Century. Finally, by analyzing the writing method and phrases used in newspaper articles, it is shown that these articles reported the details of accidents, and meanwhile portrayed those who suff ered in accidents because of queues as negative examples, in order to advise people to cut their queues. As a result, these articles also serve as certain kind of propaganda. |
