| 内容記述 | This study examines Ezra Pound’s “Sestina: Altaforte”（1909). In previous studies, this poem has been considered as an aggressive war poem on Bertran de Born. Thomas Jackson, for instance, regards Born as a bloodthirsty maniac soldier. Contrary to what is suggested by Jackson, I argue that Pound detects the critical and antiwar spirit in Born, the Southern France troubadour and hero. To take an example in this poem, I focus on Born's wild and satiric spirit, for picking out his unique actions called "steel cut". Using this framework, I find that Born's antiwar ideas are connected to his weapon of satire. | |||||||||||
