| 内容記述 | Mental rotation is the process of rotating the image of an object in the mind. We investigated the relationship between mental rotation and visual image ability. To clarify the cognitive style of visual image ability in the 31 female subjects, we used a verbalizer-visualizer questionnaire (VVQ) to investigate cognitive style (verbalizer-visualizer) and a visual imagery style questionnaire (VISQ) to investigate cognitive style (object-spatial image). For the mental rotation task, we employed normal and mirror-image letter stimuli (F and P) at six different angles (0°, 60°, 120°, 180°, 240°, and 360°, and the reaction time and error rates for each condition were recorded). The reaction times were significantly longer in the mirror-image condition than in the normal image condition at all angles. The value of the reaction time at 180° was the longest among all angles, suggesting that the subjects had more difficulty to perform the mental rotation task as the angle approached 180°. There was a negative correlation between normal image reaction times and VVQ score, and normal image reaction times (120°, 180°, 240°) and spatial image-VISQ score. We concluded that mental rotation is related to visual image ability, especially spatial imagery rather object imagery. | |||||||||||
