内容記述 Around 2000, Jun Miura proposed “Yuru-Chara". This word is an abbreviation of “Yurui Mascot Character". The purpose of this paper is to consider what were “Yuru-Chara", and changes of "Yuru-Chara" through text analysis of Asahi newspaper articles. In conclusion, originally, the word of “Yuru-Chara" meant local mascots with suits, Miura felt “Yurui", in other words “imperfect for mascots, in principle. But he did't make a strict definition and “Yurui" is a characteristic came from personal subjectivity, so there were exceptions. As text analysis of newspaper articles, I extracted words indicating characteristics of “Yuru-Chara" from 675 Asahi newspaper articles from 2002 to 2021 that includes the word of “Yuru-Chara". And then, I analyzed the contents of the articles. First, people considered that “Yuru-Chara" were unuseless existences and were amused their “Yurusa". However, “Hikonyan" appeared in 2006 became immensely popular and brought a huge profit to the place “Hikonyan" comes from. “Yuru-Chara" were believed effective tools of publicity, introduced and practical used in broad fields. The number of “Yuru-Chara" increased everywhere in Japan, and many “Yuru-Chara" were high degree of perfection and cute aimed at popular acclaim increased. After that, the “Yuru-Chara" world became more competitive. Their characteristics and energetic activities have diversified to attract attention. In conclusion, In conclusion, nowadays, the word of “Yuru-Chara" is interpreted “Yurui" local mascots with suits on the whole. However, “Yurui" is interpreted not only bad meanings but also good meanings, so the interpreter varies between individuals. Furthermore, there are very various “Yuru-Chara", so it is impossible to decide that one is an original “Yuru-Chara" Miura proposed or not.
