| 内容記述 | A traditional soup called Zoni which is made with Mochi (rice-cake) and vegetables and often eaten in each household around Japanese New Year's. However, people are eating Mochi with Kinako (soybean powder) in some of districts in Nara City, Nara Pref. and Nabari City, Mie Pref., which is a unique tradition only observed in these districts. This study conducts an in-depth discussion of this food culture and tries to discover its background and origin. From field research and interviews, we found that: Kinako is used frequently as offerings at farming festivals in spring and autumn in these two districts, Kinako's outward similarities with the rice pollen in term of its color and shape symbolizes rich harvest. Zoni is originally consumed to worship the deities during the New Year's for blessing for the year. This is the concept of the feast in which both deities and people eat together. At some time, it has affected the eating habit of Zoni Mochi when using Kinako as offerings. This paper describes and interprets the important role Kinako plays in the unique food culture of Zoni Mochi. Without these traditions which exemplifies a rich diversity within the country, the Japanese food culture would probably not be the same as it is today. | |||||||||||
