| 内容記述 | The social cognitive deficiencies of young children with autism spectrum disorders are well documented. Specially, a persistent impairment in understanding of others' intentional action is widely recognized. The experiment reported here investigated the ability to distinguish between intentional and accidental actions in young children with autism spectrum disorders and young children with developmental delay. In this study, an experimenter demonstrated either an intentional and accidental action or two intentional actions. Additionally, this study investigated whether understanding an experimenter's prior intention before the experimenter gives a demonstration influences what children imitate from the demonstration. The main findings were as follows. First, young children with autism spectrum disorders did not produce more intentional actions than accidental actions. Instead, they produced the same actions in the same order as the experimenter, in all three conditions. Second, young children with developmental delay produced more intentional actions than accidental actions. These results indicate that children with autism spectrum disorders may have relatively intact ability to understand simple goal-directed actions but be specifically impaired in their ability to attend to the social-communicative cues signifying intentions. | |||||||||||
