| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to understand the traditional concept of postpartum care and the characteristics of postpartum care centers that are widely popular in Korea with a view to exploring their implications on postpartum care in Japan. Postpartum women in Korea are considered vulnerable and thus in need of special care. In the past postpartum care was usually provided by family members at home. However, changes occurring in family life, such as the increase in the number of nuclear families, the low birthrate,the rise in the educational level of women and later births, moved postpartum care from the home to specialized institutions. Interviews of two midwives who own postpartum care facilities were conducted in Daegu City, Korea on 15th and 16th of November, 2014. Findings from the interviews illustrate the following aims of postpartum care centers: promoting women's physical recovery, providing professional care to a newborn baby, encouraging women's adapting to a new role as mother by providing information on childcare and breastfeeding support. The main characteristics of postpartum care in Korea is that it aims to give `mother-centered' care, an idea that represents a major contrast to postpartum care in Japan which centers around mother-child bonding with special emphasis on establishing breastfeeding. Research data on postnatal care in Korea provides an occasion to reflect on the Japanese concept of postnatal care which focuses on mother-child bonding and eventually could help in building a good postnatal support system in Japan. | |||||||||||||||||
