| 内容記述 | The Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry is one of the best-known books of hours. In particular, the calendars in this book, drawn by Frères de Limbourg (?–1416), are understood to be masterpieces. However, it is less widely known that the diet of John, Duke of Berry (1340– 1416), is illuminated in the January calendar. Thus far, the study of the diet of the Duke of Berry has mainly been discussed in terms of its relation to politics and manners in noble societies. This article is a reconsideration of the banquet of nobles from the point of view of the meals in the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. The main areas of focus in this study are the ingredients, culinary method, and condiments depicted in this book of hours. There are also references to these descriptions in Le Viandier and Le Ménagier de Paris. Analysis indicates the possibility that different kinds of wild birds, roast, and sauces are illustrated. This study examines the preparation of banquets among French nobles in 15th century. | |||||||||||
