| 内容記述 | This article draws primarily on the U.S. Census' original schedules from 1850 to 1930. I examine a mid-sized American Midwest town, Riverfront City, and three townships surrounding it to understand dynamic relationships of co-habitation, places of residence, demographic changes, educational opportunities, cultural backgrounds, and family relationships among teachers as a body during the formative years of an emerging occupation in local communities. My arguments are based on ethnic and gender differences in co-habitation practices and in becoming a teacher, as well as on changes in family compositions and the inter-generational relationships in response to aging parental generations. | |||||||||||
