| 内容記述 | This study aims at clarifying the types of animals used for manufacturing glue. Ink sticks derive from soot, animal glue, and a bit of essence. Although studies of the physical properties of animal glue are progressing, those of the raw material are not. In this research I focus on the wooden molds used to make ink sticks. The wooden molds included in this study were only used from 1941 to 1943, and I detected the use of buffalo glue employing the process of mass spectrometry. While buffalo are not native to Japan, they have been living in Southeast Asia. Therefore, the raw materials used for the animal glue remained in the wooden molds and were likely produced in Southeast Asia during that time. Many people believe that the raw animal material used for glue for ink sticks is bovine. However, that is not always the case, and we must consider imports from outside of Japan. | |||||||||||
