| 内容記述 | This paper considers the revisions to“ The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere"(1798)“[ The Marinere"] by examining the revisions to the Argument, the title, the use of archaic words and the writing style. Revisions from the first edition of Lyrical Ballads (1798) [LB] to the second edition mainly focused on the use of archaic words and the poetic diction and reflected the ideas of the collaborator, William Wordsworth, who felt that the language of everyday life was more suitable. However, revisions in the editions after Sibylline Leaves (1817), an independent book by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, were significant as changes were made not only to the meaning of the words but also to the content, the Argument, the title, and the writing style as if to challenge the ideas of Wordsworth. Coleridge aimed at realizing a composition that appealed to the imagination so as to be able to encourage the reader not only to believe in the existence of a visible natural world, but also to feel the existence of an invisible supernatural world. Therefore, the difference in the ideas between Coleridge and Wordsworth as to the purpose of composing “The Marinere," was mainly concentrated on composition differences, which red to the work being revised seven times. | |||||||||||
