| 内容記述 | This study examines the influence of teacher's involvement on the behavior of middle school peer groups in class by using middle school ethnography as the basis for comparing the classes where peer groups behaved differently. In addition, it discusses changes in the balance of power between teachers and class groups. The findings reveal two situations. First, even if students' behavior differed only slightly from one class to another, their language and behavior varied with their respective peer groups. These differences are probably caused by the relationship between the groups within a single class as well as the status within the group itself. Second, the effects of peer groups varied by class. In majority of the classes that included several outspoken students, communication between the teachers and the students was poor. In classes where teachers-only allowed students to speak when called on, few (differences other than passive actions) were observed among the peer groups. In classes where teachers and students had good communication, the students felt free to speak and act, which had a minimal effect on the peer groups. | |||||
