| 内容記述 | Written around 1200, Mumyo Zoshi is believed to be the oldest Japanese literary criticism. In this report, I consider a theory about The Tale of Genji in Mumyo Zoshi. Many Japanese poems(waka)in The Tale of Genji, especially those in “Suma",which is regarded as an important chapter, are quoted in Mumyo Zoshi. In fact, Mumyo Zoshi contains not only poems, but also many references about the action of Hikaru Genji at the time stay in Suma. Therefore, I focus on an episode relating to the Suma chapter in Mumyo Zoshi, attempting to clarify its perspective on the period when Hikaru Genji wandered around Suma. The wandering episode admits of two interpretations; he was either banished or he escaped the capital. Mumyo Zoshi chooses banishiment,however this differs from the current popular view. In addition, I examine the reason,since readers very much appreciate her poetry, Mumyo Zoshi criticized a poem by Murasakinoue in the Suma chapter. There is a resemblance between Murasakinoue and Sano no Otogami no Otome (狭野弟上娘子), one of the most passionate female poets in Manyosyu. However when I consider the difference between them in a social standing, the criticism of Murasakinoue is revealed as an attitude peculiar to Mumyo Zoshi which discriminates strictly against people of a certain social rank. | |||||||||||
