| 内容記述 | This article discusses the characteristics and spatial distribution of enterprise research and development (R&D) activities in Shanghai. First, an overview of R&D activities in China, including industrial and spatial features, is introduced. Currently, more than one-third of enterprise R&D activities in China are lauched in the Yangtze River Delta, followed by North China, and South China, and the activities are especially concentrated in the big-city regional centers of Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen. On the basis of this situation, characteristics and distribution of R&D activities in Shanghai are analyzed. Similar to the national level, the majority of R&D activities are implemented by large- and mediumsized industrial enterprises. Meanwhile, foreign-funded enterprises and private science and technology enterprises (PSTEs) in Shanghai also play important roles in innovation activity. Moreover, R&D activities of these enterprises show different spatial distribution: A distinct tendency of decentralization to suburban areas for large- and medium-sized industrial enterprises; distribution of most PSTEs still in central areas; and while MNCs' R&D institutions are highly concentrated in industrial parks. PSTEs are mainly engaged in R&D and technology service; therefore, they are inclined to be close to university and research institutions. For R&D institutions of large-and medium-sized industrial enterprises, proximity to the product plant is a given concern the better to realize commercialization. MNCs' R&D institutions are inclined to be located in hi-tech industrial parks because of the preferential policies. Through this analysis, it becomes clear that R&D activities by different enterprises present spatial differences, and a hierarchy of economic activities is consequently formed. | |||||||||||
