Published by Jishumon Shobo (the publishing section of the Ji school) in 1714, it annotates these doctrinal chants ムメBetsugan wasan モムwith abundant quotations from the sutras both orthodox and unorthodox in the Ji school, and also explains the doctrine of the school with the help of various Buddhist legends. The present study defines the characteristic of Shozan's work by surveying the classical Buddhist writings he cites in it, and analyzes his attitude as an annotator through the comparison between the Buddhist legends quoted in his commentary and their original versions.
