| 内容記述 | This study attempts to clarify how grandparents involve in relationship between grandchildren and their parents as mediators. Based on the semi-structured interviews to grandparents having grandchildren in undergraduate age, I found that, regarding their relationship with parents, grandparents tend to adjust timings and means of interference, placing importance on balancing influential forces to children between themselves and parents. For their grandchildren, grandparents appear to stand at the position where they are instructed new sense of values and fashions for young generation, which is consistent with findings by Attar-Schwarz (2009) that grandchildren prefer younger grandparents. No distinct difference is observed in the degree of involvement between those living together and those living separately. In some cases of separate-living, however, grandparents counsel grandchildren on bullying. This indicates the physical distance to grandparents provides the last resort to grandchildren. These observations articulate the existence of grandparents' role as mediators within a family. | |||||||||||
