| 内容記述 | This study intends to investigate the results of a national survey on special classes conducted by the Ministry of Education at the end of the Taisho Era, in order to grasp the actual state of special class for “weak-minded children" (“children with poor academic performance" in the present-day idea) in the prewar days in Japan. It also aims to clarify the actual state of education at elementary schools that were indicated by the then Ministry of Education “to be referred to when forming a special class," that is to say, elementary schools commended by the Ministry of Education. In this study, the present writer of this thesis directed attention to a public elementary school, Harumichi 8-year Elementary School in Nara prefecture, which was introduced as one of elementary schools commended by the Ministry of Education together with the concrete contents of its educational activity [in the survey on the formation of special class] (conducted in October of 1923) by the School Hygiene Section of the Secretariat of the Minister of Education – one of the four large-scale surveys conducted at the end of the Taisho Era. The writer intends to find clues to clarify the features of the elementary school commended by the Ministry of Education, and also to grasp what the then Ministry of Education expected from the special class for “weak-mind children." | |||||||||||
