| 内容記述 | In,a,development,parallel,to,the,so-called,New,Historicism,in,Renaissance,studies,the,buzzwords,among,Romanticists,in,recent,years,have,been,history,and,politics.,Terms,like,vision,and,imagination,so,central,to,the,previous,generation,of,critics,have,been,treated,with,skepticism,and,often,outright,hostility.,New,Historicists,however,seem,to,have,run,the,risk,of,canceling,the,delights,that,visionary,poems,in,their,diversity,yield,to,readers:,as,M.H.Abrams,points,out,they,"cast a critical twilight in which all poems are gray",.,The,present,article,examines,how,we,can,reinstate,the,definitive,Romantic,criteria,of,vision,without,incurring,the,risk,of,so-called,Romantic,ambiguity,and,arbitrariness.,An,outstanding,characteristic,of,visionary,experiences,is,the,difficulty,of,describing,both,for,the,poets,and,the,readers,who,criticize,them.,I,suggest,that,we,readers,at,least,should,overcome,this,difficulty,by,rethinking,the,term,vision,.,Despite,the,common,definition,of,the,word,as,something,prophetic,mystic,or,supernatural,we,should,remind,ourselves,that,the,original,meaning,of,vision,is,"sight, seeing, thing seen",and,this,simple,fact,I,think,gives,us,an,important,clue,to,the,reading,of,visionary,poems.,We,should,make,more,of,the,physical,process,leading,up,to,the,vision,than,jumping,at,the,possible,metaphysical,interpretations.,In,my,coinage,this,is,"the poetics of how",and,this,is,what,I,have,put,into,practice,in,the,reading,of,Wordsworth's,famous,visionary,poem,"Tintern Abbey",.,Through,this,examination,we,have,found,that,the,culmination,of,this,poem,is,"a sense sublime of something",rather,than,"a sense of something sublime",which,reveals,the,very,Wordsworthian,or,rather,Romantic,solipsism. | |||||||||||
